Dermal fillers

So, what are Dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable substances containing hyaluronic acid. Fillers are used for softening lines, building volume and restoring lost facial contours. Hyaluronic acid is naturally broken down by the body, so the treatment is temporary and safe. The effects can last from 6-18 months according to the type of filler used and the site injected.

We only use high quality, well established, or FDA approved dermal fillers that combine naturally with the superficial and deeper layers of the skin. These include Teoxane®, Restylane® and Juvaderm®. The product is administered by our Level 7 qualified Aesthetic Practitioner, Dr Taylor. The procedure usually takes 30-45 minutes to complete depending on the area injected. Results are often almost immediate and usually improve over time.

Risks and side effects

You will likely experience some minor swelling which usually improves within a few hours and resolves within 2-3 days. It is also common to feel the filler for a few days after the injection.

The most common side effect is bruising. Although the procedure is considered very safe, we strongly recommend you refer to the ACE group information leaflet before contemplating any treatment.

Please note that treatments are unlikely to be given on the day of consultation to allow you to decide whether this is the right decision for you.

Downtime and aftercare

There is almost no recovery time. Patients may feel some minor pain and discomfort but can return to day-to-day activities immediately.

Lip fillers

So, what are Lip fillers?

Lip fillers contain specially formulated hyaluronic acid which is present naturally in the lips. Lip fillers are used to contour the lip, provide volume and shape and improve hydration. Hyaluronic acid is naturally broken down by the body, so the treatment is temporary and safe. The effects can last up to 6 months.

The product is administered by our Level 7 qualified Aesthetic Practitioner, Dr Andy Taylor. Before the injection, the area will cleaned and a numbing cream applied which takes around 20 minutes to be fully effective. Alternatively, you can have your lips numbed with a local anaesthetic injection. The procedure usually takes 30-45 minutes and the results are usually immediate and usually improve over time.

Tear Trough

So, what is Tear Trough?

The tear trough is an area of depression towards the inner angle of the eye. The tear trough is a common complaint particually as we become older. This is not an area, however, to be treated without adequate skill, experience, knowledge and training. The correct choice of product is essential and not all fillers are suitable for tear trough correction.

Please note that the tear trough defect may be due to loss of volume in the midface or bony cheek. Only treating the tear trough may therefore not give the best results. Sometimes correcting the actual tear trough is a last resort.

The procedure

The tear trough will be corrected by our Level 7 qualified Aesthetic Practitioner, Dr Andy Taylor who has been specifically trained in tear trough injection by Teoxane. Before the injection, the area will be numbed using a local anaesthetic injection. The procedure usually takes 20-30 minutes, and the results improve over time. Improvements will be subtle as overcorrection can lead to swelling.

Risks and side effects

The commonest side effect is bruising. Although the procedure is considered safe in skilled hands, we strongly recommend you refer to the information leaflet before contemplating any filler treatment as this is a high-risk area.

Please note that tear trough treatment will not be given on the day of initial consultation to allow you to decide whether this is the right decision for you. Also, not everyone will be suitable for tear trough correction, especially if you already have swelling or bags under the eyes.

Downtime and aftercare

There is almost no recovery time unless you get bruising. Patients may feel some minor pain and discomfort but can return to day-to-day activities immediately.

Do not massage the area following treatment for 24-36 hours.

Skin Boosters

Skin boosters contain specially formulated non-cross linked hyaluronic acid is placed in small amounts just under the skin. Skin boosters can be used not only on the face but other areas such as the neck, decolletage and hands.

Our clinic only uses Teoxane® Redensity I and Restylane® Vital skin boosters.

Teoxane® Redensity is unique in that it contains a mixture of antioxidants, nutrients and vitamin B6.

Restylane® skin boosters have been used with excellent results for over 12 years, with over 3.5 million treatments given worldwide.

The procedure involves giving very small volumes of the booster spread evenly over a wide area of the skin. This is virtually painless although you may feel slight discomfort at times. A topical numbing cream can also be applied to aid comfort during the procedure if required. The procedure usually takes 20-30 minutes to complete.

To get the maximum benefit from skin boosters, a course of three treatments, 4 weeks apart is needed. A maintenance programme is recommended every 4-6 months.

Risks and side effects

The most common side effects include treatment site reactions such as swelling, bruising, redness, pain, and tenderness at the injection sites. These usually subside within 24 hours.

Downtime and aftercare

There is almost no recovery time unless you get bruising. Patients may feel some minor pain and discomfort but can return to day-to-day activities immediately.

Profhilo®

Profhilo is a unique hyaluronic acid (HA) product that remodels the skin. It not only boosts and hydrates the skin but also provides a lifting and tightening effect. It is not a filler or skin booster.

Profhilo stimulates the production of 4 different types of collagen and elastin by slow release of hyaluronic acid. This results in both hydration and lift of the tissues. Its effectiveness is backed by several clinical studies.

The product is administered by Dr Taylor using five injection points. He has been fully trained in this technique by HA-derma (the manufacturer of Profhilo). This product can only be administered by registered medical practitioners.

At least two treatments are recommended four weeks apart. Results are usually maximal four weeks after the second treatment.
